Dana Distortion

Music Photographer / Videographer / Filmmaker

Dana (Distortion) Yavin was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, and moved to New York City in 2000. She has a film degree from the School of Visual Arts in New York and attended the Camera Obscura School of Art in Tel Aviv. Her relentless passion for shooting live music has led to multiple physical injuries, violent ejection from music venues, and setting the trend for using step stools in the photography pit (she is a feisty five feet tall).

Dana's work has been featured in a variety of media, including Rolling Stone and rollingstone.com, SPIN, NPR, Newsweek, BrooklynVegan.com. CBS, Rockin'on Magazine (Japan), BassQuarterly (Germany), Microsoft Arts, and many more.

Her specialty is capturing the energy and essence of high-profile bands and artists in performance, including Paul McCartney, Foo Fighters, Madonna, Soundgarden, Metallica, Aerosmith, Coldplay, KISS, Bruce Springsteen, The Cure, Jack White, Jane's Addiction, and Patti Smith.

Currently, 86 enlargements are on display at the Gibson Guitars showroom in the town where she lives, works, and is constantly inspired... her favorite place in the world, New York City.

Dana's Gear

"One thing that is very consistent about the photo pit is that things are unpredictable. If I'm at a small club or an arena show, I never know what will happen. I like that Lowepro bags are consistently flexible, tough and help me make quick decisions in a crowd."
